Accused Capital Murderer Out on Bond Skips Monday Court Hearing

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Accused Capital Murderer Nicholas Abel Rodriguez was a no show at a pretrial hearing scheduled Monday afternoon in District Judge Jay Weatherby's court.

Rodriguez is the last of the defendants to go to trial in the gang style murders of 16-year-old Zane Lopez and 17-year-old Juan Guerrero in March of 2016.

As we reported at the time, according to court documents signed by 391st District Judge Brad Goodwin,  17-year-old Neo Perez is accused of shooting the two men in the back yard in the 1100 block of E. 22nd St. in the early morning hours of March 26, 2016.

San Angelo Police investigating the shooting found Guerrero lying on the ground with a gunshot wound near his right eye.  He was deceased.  Lopez was taken by ambulance to Shannon Hospital.  He had a gunshot wound to the right side of his head.  He died at the hospital.

According to the report, Neo Perez along with Fred Angel Garcia, Nicholas Rodriguez and Eric Ramos were at the Kandiland Party Room on E. Ave K.  Surveillance video showed them leaving just before 9:00 p.m.

Nicholas Rodriguez told police that Perez was in the front seat of a vehicle and stood up through the sunroof and shot over the fence using a .40 caliber handgun and a .45 caliber handgun.  The investigation found Rodriguez had a .22 caliber handgun.

After the shooting, the men went to Gilberto Reyes.  Reyes told investigators he sold the three handguns to an individual known to authorities.

Fred Angel Garcia plead guilty to murder and was sentenced to 35 years in prison.  Eric Ramos plead guilty to murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the murders.

There were three plea hearings in Judge Weatherby's courtroom Monday afternoon.

Neither Rodriguez nor his attorney were present for the scheduled pretrial hearing and no explanation was given to the judge or made public during the hearing.

Failure to appear at a scheduled felony hearing is a third degree felony in Texas punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.

Capital Murder in Texas is punishable by death or life in prison without parole.  Rodriguez doesn't have a jury trial on the district court docket at this time.

Don't most capital murder suspects get denied bail? And if given, the amount usually is way beyond what the suspect can afford. This little gangsta probably doesn't have more than a couple hundred bucks at his disposal, yet they let him out. That most likely explains that stupid grin on his face. How did this happen......anyone??

I saw you mention you grew up in So LA. We're out in Vermillion Parish atm, about to enjoy some Turtle Sauce Picante. Lovely culture and very friendly people out here, I enjoy it more each time I visit.

In most murder cases, bond is denied. This kid more than likely is a 3rd or 4th generation welfare recipient, so that might've given the impression that he couldn't afford to be a flight risk. Joke's on Judge, I suppose. The court also looks at any previous offences, or lack thereof in making a decision. I'd be curious as to what made anyone think we needed this trash anywhere but behind bars.

Didn't grow up there, but lived and worked there for 10 years. While you're in or near Abbeville, ask around to find out if the old Chez Paris is still open. You'll find some humor finding out what it is/was considering some dialogue of late. It was a must stop coming in from offshore in Grand Chenier and Cameron. I still cook Cajun, court boullion, etouffe', gumbo, etc., but haven't had turtle sauce piquant in many years.

Ha! My girlfriend tells me she thinks Chez Paris used to be a brothel. Her mom said later it became a lounge. I recall Grand Chenier. I cruised around out towards there and Rutherford Beach last year.

I get my turtle at Suire's, and load up on Boudin/Boudin Balls and "Cracklin" at Richard's, but yes, like yourself, my girlfriend brought all of her "coonass" culinary skills over to San Angelo. Delicious!

He was charged with capital murder. So why was he out on bond? It was stupid that he nor his attorney did not show up but lets face it the attorney may of told him to run after all apparently whoever granted him a bond just thinks everyone will show up for court when they have a murder charge against them. Next you can write a article on who gave him the bond to begin with.

Cajun...

The story never stated specifically this twerp was out on bond although it is implied in the headline. If so, I'm curious about the amount of bond.

Some time ago a stepson of mine who, shall we say, has a long history of interactions with the legal system because of his fondness for crack cocaine and what he has done to satisfy his need for that filth, was staying with us during one of his brief sojourns outside the slammer. One night the gendarmes came to the door, knocked, were admitted to our abode, and hauled him away.

By the way, for those who have not enjoyed such an experience, when the Heat shows up at the door their first knock is rather firm. If you ignore THAT knock, the next one is VERY loud. They get serious about wanting in. You really need to answer the door.

Anyway, his history was composed of totally non-violent offenses. His thing was burglary. His bond was set at 50K. I bailed him out, which meant this affair cost me five grand. The next time he needed bailing out I decided to pass on the opportunity.

And this guy is accused of capital murder?

He was last seen standing next to David Currie at the Prayer Vigil for Illegal Alien Children and Guest Voters. Beto O’Rourke was said to have given him a ride to McAllen on his campaign bus where he will cross the river and await the results of the 2020 election. He will be granted a Presidential Pardon by Hillary Clinton and run for U.S. Senator against Ted Cruz.

Look for the updated story. I don't know why Yantis just didn't update this story instead of having a whole other one. Based on the updated story, he was there and did not skip bail. Come on Yantis.
