ASU Code Camp Picks up TimeClock Plus Sponsorship

SAN ANGELO, TX-- TimeClock Plus announced on Friday a sponsorship of Angelo State University's Code Camp.

TimeClock Plus and Angelo State are partnering to host the two-week camp, which began today at the Mathematics-Computer Science building on campus at 2200 Dena Dr.

“We believe this is a great event for the students as well as the community as a whole. We are committed to the betterment of our community and an investment in our kids is an investment in the future of San Angelo,” Vice President of Sales, Trey Watts said.

The event runs until June 19 and is open to all kids interested in the field, "no coding experience required," according to ASU's listing.

The camp hosts 26 junior high and high school students from across the state. Attendees will learn skills such as designing, implementing and testing code through the Java programming language.

“Furthering the technical workforce in our community, our sponsorship with the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo Robotics Competition and other STEM learning opportunities will help establish the next tech generation for the children of the Concho Valley,"  Assistant Vice President of Operations, Derek McIntyre said. As a successful company in a thriving industry, we are always seeking to add more diversity in long-term career opportunities in San Angelo.”

Dr. William Wolfe, chair of the Computer Science Department, is directing the event.

TimeClock Plus says they will underwrite the event in 2019 in order to make it free to those interested in attending.

In addition to the camp sponsorship, TimeClock Plus announced they will give away two scholarships to Computer Science and Management Information Technology majors in both fall and spring semesters at ASU. With those scholarships, students will also get an internship in their field where they are able to earn three credit hours per semester.
