First, I'm glad the guy is going to be okay. He may reassess his ability to carry a firearm safely, though.

Second, a tale like this makes me uneasy at the thought some folks seem to think we'll all be safer if more people carry. That's utter nonsense.

I'm sorry a disabled USMC veteran carrying a weapon makes you uneasy. I'm willing to give a man who took an oath to die for my freedom more than a little slack. I'm also sorry that you think citizens owning and carrying guns makes you less safe. I'm glad you think you can stand behind 'utter nonsense' of more people carrying guns. Don't worry my friend. Sleep tight. We are protecting you whether you like it or not.

"We are protecting you whether you like it or not"
What a load of crap. I suppose you're more familiar with the technicalities of felons and their ability to possess a firearm than I am Yantis, so I'll concede to the resident expert.
But you're delusional if you think you and your gun toting, self-shooting posse are protecting me from anything in the real world.

Stop using the word accidental, and start using words like careless and negligent.

Whether you like it or not, the facts do matter. It's not semantics; the words are not interchangeable. If a deer runs right out in front of my car and I hit it, it's an accident. If I am unable to properly function my firearm that is in my possession, resulting in discharge, it is negligence.

You maintain your ability to amuse.

First, while I applaud the "victim" here for his service, I still question the desirability of his continuing to carry a firearm. Since careless handling of a weapon can easily result in serious injury or death, I have little tolerance for it.

By the way, I own four handguns.

Second, if I thought my well-being depended on a passel of pistol packing Rambo wanna-be's I'd never leave the house. As it is I have little concern when I step out the door. So, while your heartfelt concern for my well-being is appreciated, I have little need of it.

Have a good one anyway. I know your heart's in the right place even if your thinking appears to be half a bubble off plumb.

Perhaps needs to be re-phrased. "I haven't had needed your concern or your firepower....yet. But when I'm hunkered down, trying to be invisible while a madman is killing indiscriminately, I won't appreciate you stopping the slaughter and saving my life and my family's life, because it opposes my moral compass."
I won't even touch the Rambo wanna-be's remark, it's simply too absurd.

I simply chuckle to myself when I hear folks decrying armed citizenry, and I often think of a mass shooting (before they were commonplace) that took place in Killeen at a Luby's Cafeteria back in 1991. I recall a post incident interview with a woman who was dining with her parents who were both shot and killed in front of her. She remembers reaching for her purse, which always contained a pistol, when the gunman had his back to her, but much to her dismay, she had decided to leave it in her car while she dined with her parents. Don't ya think she regrets that one?

I'm sure that shooting himself was enough to teach this guy the lesson he needed, take it easy on him, the natural consequences have already occurred. There's no reason that he shouldn't be able to carry after he recovers.

Hope nobody is that quick to judge when you have an "accident" cleaning your Glock 19... Don't you have to pull the trigger to disassemble it? All it takes is one momentary "lapse" in responsibility... Don't "pop" yourself while you sit down in your truck while you carry one of your 4 pieces or I'm sure that you'll never hear the end of it... Or even worse, you'll have folks convincing you to stop carrying.

You guys are human too... Gun owners with a self righteous attitude are about the only thing worse than the "grabbers" on the far left. You might not have screwed up yet, and I truly hope that you don't for that matter, but things do happen sometimes... They happen because we're not perfect, remembering that is what has kept me incident free.

I would love to see some solid stats on the amount of ND's "Negligent Discharges", that are a result of folks specifically with the license to carry if you can find some. From what I can tell, they happen so few and far between, that nobody has found it an important enough factor to study. Probably because most licensed carriers are pretty thorough and do practice safe handling.

Our local veteran and one really embarrassed FBI agent who decided to do a backflip on the dance floor. I'm sure he'll soon be a former FBI agent.

I guess that's why folks aren't supposed to carry in bars. You may not be able to keep yourself from busting a move... Ouch! I almost find it hard to believe the dude was an FBI agent... Did you see his reaction? Fire's a shot picking up the piece and doesn't even check to see if he hit anyone, just tuck's it back in, throw's his hands up, smiles and walks away... Doesn't seem like someone who's been trained by the FBI, or does it?

On FBI training and discipline. The guy shot in the leg didn't know he was hit either until he noticed blood. I guess both had an elevated BA.
