Mexican National Receives Deferred Adjudication for Aggravated Assault; At Risk of Deportation

SAN ANGELO, TX – A citizen of Mexico was given ten years deferred adjudication and is at risk of deportation after pleading guilty to one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

26-year-old Julio Edwardo Mendoza-Badillo was facing two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 for stabbing Jose Hernandez in September of 2016. 

According to court documents, Mendoza entered a residence on Ave. C in San Angelo where his wife lived.  He went to the bedroom and found Hernandez there.  Mendoza assaulted Hernandez, took out a folding knife and stabbed him in the chest.  Hernandez went to the hospital for treatment and was interviewed there by officers. 

Mendoza turned himself into police and admitted to the stabbing. 

51^st District Judge Barbara Walther told Mendoza that he could be deported by pleading guilty to a felony because he is not a U.S. citizen.  Mendoza said he had contacted an immigration attorney in San Antonio and understood he could be deported. 

Mendoza was also fined $2,500.
