San Angelo Police Credit Nixle and the Community for Locating Missing Children

Last Friday evening, San Angelo LIVE! reported on two missing children based on a Nixle alert, and today, the San Angelo Police Department credits both this Nixle message and a driver in alerting area agencies and the community about the disappearance and assisting in the quick recovery of the children.

“San Angelo Police issued a Nixle Alert for the missing girls, ages 5 and 10, at about 5:30 p.m. September 25 after they were reported missing from the 2000 block of N. Parkway,” said Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD. “About 15 minutes later, a 32-year-old San Angelo woman who had just learned of the alert, noticed the girls walking in the area of N. Bishop and Guadalupe Streets. The citizen then called police and stayed with the girls until officers responded. The girls were unharmed and later reunited with family members.”

Gonzalez also stated that police conducted a door-to-door search of the surrounding area and nearby playground before the girls were located. Several neighbors and other citizens who received the Nixle alert assisted with the search efforts.

Over the past few years, San Angelo Police have located several missing persons with the assistance of citizens who subscribe to Nixle.

“To register and receive free public safety alert messages from the San Angelo Police Department and other local agencies, visit https://local.nixle.com/register/,” Gonzalez said. “Registering online allows subscribers to customize their account by enabling text alerts, areas of interest, and specifying the types of alerts to receive. Data rates may apply and certain cell phone carriers may not participate.”
