Fort Concho to Mark Armed Forces Day with Cannon Fire, Military Exhibits

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Fort Concho will commemorate Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 17, with hourly cannon fire beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing through 3 p.m. near the site’s Visitor Center at Barracks 1, 630 South Oakes St.

The event will feature displays of military weaponry, an activity booklet for children, and three special exhibits inside the Barracks 1 Visitor Center. Additionally, all eight of the fort’s exhibit buildings will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Active-duty military personnel and their families will receive free admission for the day. 

Armed Forces Day was established to honor those currently serving in the United States military and has been recognized on the third Saturday of May each year since 1950.
