Some Special Ops cops in stealth mode Wednesday busted a few burglars in the 1300 block of South Hill, having been alerted to some suspects suspiciously driving a Chevy Tahoe around the area. Police received the information at approximately 8:00 a.m., and as that information was being passed on to responding officers, Officer W. Montez recognized the description of the vehicle’s driver to be 21-year-old Joshua P. Garcia.
The SAPD called in Special Operations Section (SOS) Detectives to assist in locating J. Garcia and his passenger, and began to survey the area. Two males matching the suspect’s descriptions were then seen running toward the Tahoe, each carrying large bags. Upon reaching the vehicle, the two jumped in and drove away, but it was already too late for a dramatic chase and getaway. Officers stopped the car and approached the vehicle, at which point the passenger, 32-year-old Michael Flores, opened the door in an attempt to flee. He was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.
In the course of the investigation, it was determined that the bags the pair had been carrying contained stolen personal property. M. Flores was also found to be carrying methamphetamine. Police determined that Garcia and Flores had burglarized a residence located one block east of where the Tahoe had been left unattended.
J. Garcia and M. Flores were arrested for burglary of a habitation. In addition, M. Flores was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
