Rambelles Run-Rule West Texas A&M, Force Winner-Take-All Rematch

CANYON, TX — The Angelo State softball team handed West Texas A&M its worst loss of the season Saturday in a stunning 8-0 blowout to force a winner-take-all rematch for the regional title later today.

The Rambelles jumped on the Lady Buffs with two runs in the second inning, two in the third, and then four more in the fifth to end the game early due to the mercy rule.

While ASU’s offense was running wild, Belles pitcher Cheyenne Floyd held WT to only one hit and walked two.

ASU (47-13) had the daunting task of needing to win twice today against a WT squad that entered the day with a 54-5 record.

However, the Belles were one of the five teams that had defeated the Lady Buffs, and now they’ve done it twice, each time in resounding fashion. The other win was 7-0 in San Angelo on April 27.

ASU’s Zoey De Baca came through with an important two-run single to jumpstart the Belles with a 2-0 lead Saturday. Tatiana Trotter’s two-run home run made it 4-0 in the third.

WT still holds a 4-2 edge in the six meetings between the teams this season, and the Lady Buffs will have home-field advantage in their rematch scheduled for 5 p.m. today.
