ODESSA, TX — The San Angelo Central High School girls gymnastics team claimed its seventh consecutive state title and 15th overall Saturday in Odessa.
Central scored 233.225 points to win the championship over Rockwall (231.950) and L.D. Bell (231.250).
The Lady Cats were led by Kara Baker, who finished second in the all-around standings behind Euless Trinity’s Courtney Shaw.
Baker had a stellar meet, which included a state title in the balance beam. She was also third in the uneven bars, fourth in the vault and second on the floor exercise.
Another standout performance for Central came from Danielle De La Cruz, who was eighth in the all-around. Allison Garnett was 20th and Steely Young was 21st.
Other Lady Cats’ competitors included Kaylen Cadd, Ava Bedard, Addison McDuffie, Mila Morrison and Sophia Pashow.
The team was guided by longtime head coach Tony Walker.
The Central boys were sixth in the team standings behind Round Rock, Saginaw and Rockwall. Central’s district rival, Odessa Permian, was fourth.
Eli Soto led the Bobcats with a seventh-place showing in the all-around. He was fifth on vault, eighth on horizontal bar and eighth on the floor.
