SAN ANGELO, TX — Angelo State University's Jazz Ensembles program will host its second "Jazz Combo Jam Session" of the spring on Saturday, April 19, from 4-6 p.m. at The House of FiFi DuBois, 123 S. Chadbourne St. in downtown San Angelo.
Styled less like a traditional concert and more like an open jam session, the event is free and open to the public.
An ASU Jazz Combo will perform from 4-5 p.m., showcasing an eclectic mix of jazz standards, contemporary tunes and improvisation.
Following the Jazz Combo performance, the stage will be opened up for anyone in the audience who would like to join in with the Jazz Combo for a jam session.
"These jam sessions are a fantastic way to bring together students, local musicians and the community to celebrate jazz in a relaxed, welcoming setting," said Dr. Trent Shuey, director of the Jazz Ensembles program. "It's an opportunity for our students to perform, connect with fellow musicians and keep the jazz tradition alive."
The ASU Jazz Combo will feature students performing on trumpet, saxophone, trombone, guitar, piano, bass and drums, along with Shuey on vibraphone. All musicians, whether students, professionals or just passionate jazz fans, are encouraged to bring their instruments and join in the open jam session.
The third and final spring ASU Jazz Combo Jam Session at The House of FiFi DuBois is scheduled for May 3.
