Longtime Bronte Coach Carol Moore Announces Retirement

BRONTE, TX — Carol Moore, a longtime coach at Bronte High School in volleyball and basketball, has announced her retirement at the end of the school year.

Moore spent much of her 22-year career at Bronte coaching basketball, but she found her greatest success when she took over the volleyball program in 2016.

Moore led Bronte to the state final her first year, then won the state championship in 2017, when she was named the state's Class 1A Coach of the Year by the Texas Sports Writers Association.

In nine years at the helm, Moore led Bronte to six appearances in the regional final and four trips to the state semifinals.

She had a record of 231-120 as Bronte’s volleyball coach.

"I would work forever if I could, but my age keeps getting further and further away from my athletes, and so is my body's ability to keep up," Moore said about her decision to retire. "It is time for my family, my young grandsons, my grown children and my aging parents to have all of me, not just the leftovers."

In her final season last fall, Moore guided Bronte to a 31-12 record and an exciting five-set win over Water Valley in the regional final.

The Lady Longhorns’ season ended with a four-set loss to eventual state champion Harrold in the state semifinals.

Overall, Moore spent 38 years in education. She spent two years in Crosbyton and 13 in San Angelo before moving to Bronte in 2003.

"Bronte is my forever home," Moore said. "I won't be leaving, because I'm forever a Lady Longhorn. It’s been the most gratifying thing I’ve ever done behind being a Christian and being a part of the family I was blessed into and the one I was blessed with. This school and community helped raise and influence my kids."

Moore said each of her children graduated from Bronte, with all three winning at the state level in their respective sports or One Act Play.

She said she was lucky to live out her dream of becoming a coach.

"I knew from my seventh grade year that I wanted to be a coach," Moore said. "Not only did I get to realize that dream, but the ultimate in all the kids I've gotten to coach and love was the icing on the cake. I will miss that part the most, relationships with girls and students whom I would take home with me, the people I’ve worked with and coached against, and the family of Bronte ISD, my home away from home."

Carol Moore, who led the Bronte volleyball program to four trips to the state semifinals and the 2017 state title, has announced her retirement at the end of the school year.
