100-Year-Old Sign Reinstalled at San Angelo’s Roosevelt Lofts

SAN ANGELO, TX — A 100-year-old sign was reinstalled Tuesday morning at 50 N. Chadbourne St., where a former downtown hotel is being redeveloped into senior housing.

Ascend Contractor Solutions completed the restoration and installation, sharing photos of the sign being lifted into place. The restored sign, which once marked the Roosevelt Hotel, now reads “Roosevelt Lofts."

Several local businesses assisted in the project, including Sharon Flippin of AdArtDesigns, Heare Services, J&T Welding, Lane Weathermart, and Stuard Crane.

The sign was originally removed in 2017 during a prior renovation effort that stalled. In 2024, Overland Property Group began a $6.5 million renovation to convert the building into a 25-unit complex for senior residents. Construction is expected to be completed by summer 2025.

The building opened in 1929 as the Rainbow Hotel and was renamed the Roosevelt in 1933. It remained vacant for several years before work resumed under the current redevelopment plan.
