SAN ANGELO, TX — The historic Roosevelt Hotel in downtown San Angelo is undergoing a $6.5 million renovation to be converted into affordable senior housing.
Located at 50 N. Chadbourne St., the three-story building was originally built in 1929 as the Rainbow Hotel and renamed the Roosevelt Hotel in 1933. Overland Property Group, which purchased the building, began renovations in May 2024 and plans to transform it into 25 loft-style apartments for seniors earning between 30% and 60% of the area's median income. The project is expected to be completed by late summer 2025.
The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs awarded funding for the project on July 27, 2023. The redevelopment will maintain the building’s Mission Revival architectural details while modernizing the interiors.
Jones Gillam Renz Architects is leading the design, with LST Engineers handling electrical work and Post Oak Preservation Solutions overseeing historic preservation.
