Pipeline Explosion and Fire Erupt in Reeves County, Cause Unknown

REEVES COUNTY, TX – Authorities are investigating a pipeline explosion and tank battery fire that erupted late Wednesday near Highway 285 and County Road 436, close to Orla in Reeves County, according to the Reeves County Sheriff's Office.

Reeves County Sheriff’s deputies and Emergency Services District personnel responded around 11:30 p.m. and found crude oil burning at the scene. According to Western Midstream, the site manager confirmed that two tanker trucks were present, but all employees were accounted for, and no one else was expected to be on-site.

Due to the severity of the fire, officials have not determined whether there are any casualties. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. While the pipeline has been shut off, officials estimate that approximately 2.5 miles of pipeline will need to burn off.

The Reeves County Sheriff’s Office is urging oilfield traffic to avoid the area. Authorities are also asking oil companies to inventory their trucks and employees, requesting that any unaccounted personnel or vehicles be reported by calling (432) 445-4901.

Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
