SAN ANGELO, TX – Unseasonably warm temperatures are expected to persist through Saturday, with record-breaking highs anticipated before a cold front arrives late in the day.
The National Weather Service reports that San Angelo and Abilene could match or exceed previous record highs, with temperatures climbing into the mid-to-upper 80s. San Angelo’s record high of 87 degrees, set in 1999, and Abilene’s record of 84 degrees from 1943 may be challenged.
Forecasters predict that a strong cold front will sweep through the region Saturday evening, bringing much cooler conditions for Sunday. The most likely scenario projects afternoon highs in the 50s and 60s, but if cloud cover is more extensive, temperatures could remain in the 30s and 40s.
Winds out of the south at 10-15 mph, with stronger gusts, are expected to accompany the warm spell before the front moves in. By Sunday, conditions will shift, with much cooler air settling over the area.
