SAN ANGELO, TX — Temperatures are expected to reach record-breaking highs through Saturday before a strong cold front brings a drop in temperatures by Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in San Angelo.
Highs in San Angelo and Abilene could tie or break century-old records, with forecasted temperatures reaching 90 degrees on Saturday. These readings are more typical of late spring than early February. San Angelo is projected to hit 87 degrees on both Thursday and Friday, surpassing the 81-degree record set in 1999. Abilene is also expected to challenge records dating back to the early 1900s.

The unseasonably warm weather will be followed by a temperature drop. A cold front moving in Saturday night will push temperatures down by 20 to 30 degrees, with Sunday highs expected in the 60s and Monday plunging further into the 50s.
The NWS also issued a Dense Fog Advisory for parts of the region, including the I-10 corridor from Junction to Sonora and Ozona, and US-87 from Brady to San Saba. Visibility is expected to drop to a quarter mile or less, creating hazardous driving conditions.
