Wind Advisory in Effect for Most of West Central Texas

 

UPDATE: The National Weather Service in San Angelo has expanded the wind advisory further south to include the Concho Valley and Heartland areas. Strong north winds behind a cold front will increase this afternoon. Winds are expected to increase to 25-35 MPH with gusts over 40.  A few areas of blowing dust could also occur. If you are driving a high-profile vehicle, please use caution, especially on east-west roads.

SAN ANGELO, TX — A wind advisory is in effect today for the Big Country and northwest Texas, mainly along and north of Interstate 20, with north winds sustained at 25-35 mph and occasional gusts up to 40-45 mph, the National Weather Service said.

The advisory runs from noon to 6 p.m., according to the NWS office in San Angelo. 

Colder temperatures are expected tonight, with clear skies and diminishing north to northeast winds. Overnight lows will drop into the mid to upper 30s across the region, from 9 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday. 

The detailed forecast for the San Angelo area includes:

  • Today: Sunny, with a high near 72. Windy, with a southwest wind 15 to 25 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.
  • Tonight: Clear, with a low around 38. Windy, with a north northeast wind 20 to 25 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
  • Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 68. North northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south in the afternoon.
  • Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 48. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
  • Friday: Sunny, with a high near 86. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph.
  • Friday Night: Clear, with a low around 54. South southwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
  • Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 89. Southwest wind around 15 mph.
  • Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 60. Windy, with a south southwest wind 15 to 25 mph.
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Breezy, with a southwest wind around 20 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
  • Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 39. Windy, with a northeast wind 20 to 25 mph.
  • Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 62. Breezy.
  • Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 40.
  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 74.
