763 Teams Compete in West Texas Big Bobcat Contest, Over $175K Awarded

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The West Texas Big Bobcat Contest concluded its January 2025 event with 763 teams vying for the grand prize and jackpot titles.

Participants weighed 67 qualified bobcats, contributing to a total payout of $175,490.

The contest awarded $53,310 to first-place winners Travis McCracken and Dane Carter for a bobcat weighing 30 lbs. 4 oz. The second- and third-place prizes went to teams led by Jeff Ridings and Justin Brown, earning $30,420 and $22,790, respectively.

The format required teams to qualify their bobcats by hunting five gray foxes or five coyotes, but participants could also compete for jackpots, including “Most Bobcats,” “Most Coyotes,” and “Most Grey Foxes.” Each jackpot paid $7,630.

Additional highlights included:

  • The heaviest grey fox, weighing 13 lbs. 6 oz., earned $22,890 for Ross Moore and Matt Hudson.
  • Special awards went to youth hunter Cortez Molina, who placed sixth, and for a three-legged bobcat, earning a prize for Zack McCormick and Chad Meeks.

Hunting began at noon Saturday and concluded with weigh-ins Sunday at the San Angelo Claybird Association.

The next WTBBC events are scheduled for Feb. 22 and March 22, 2025.
