SIOUX FALLS, SD — The Angelo State University volleyball team’s best playoff run in program history fell one match short of the national final.
The No. 3-seeded Rambelles won the opening set Friday but dropped the next three in a 21-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-22 loss to No. 7 San Francisco State.
It snapped ASU’s 20-match winning streak as the Belles’ season ended with a record of 32-3.
It was their first appearance in the national semifinals, though ASU won the 2020 American Volleyball Coaches Association national title when the NCAA playoffs were canceled due to COVID-19.
San Francisco State continues its Cinderella run after rallying from a two-set deficit Thursday to defeat No. 2 Central Oklahoma.
The Gators (26-6) will play No. 4 Lynn or No 8 Bentley in Saturday’s championship match.
ASU was led by Adeline Ortman, who had 42 assists and three aces. Caleigh Enax anchored the defense with 39 digs.
Madi Parrish had 14 kills, followed by Evelyn Torres with 11, Sydney Thornton with 8 and Demi Carter with 7.
Parrish, a sophomore, and Thornton and Carter, who are freshmen, are among an exciting group of returners next season.
