SAN ANGELO, TX — It was an absolute battle, but the Angelo State University volleyball team held off Metro State-Denver on Sunday in four sets to win the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament.
The Rambelles defeated Metro State 25-19, 27-25, 20-25, 30-28 in front of their home crowd at the Junell Center.
ASU is now headed to the Elite Eight for the second time in program history on Dec. 12-14 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
ASU twice had to erase two set points, the first time coming in the second set when it rallied from 24-22 down.
The Belles did it again in the fourth set when Metro State again had a 24-22 lead and was one point from forcing a decisive fifth set.
ASU was clutch in the match’s biggest points and held on for a 30-28 win when Sydney Thornton and Kaila Garnett combined for a block to set off the celebration.
ASU (31-2) will take a 19-match winning streak into the national tournament.
The Belles were led by Madi Parrish with 17 kills and Evelyn Torres with 13 kills.
Adeline Ortman paced the offense with 39 assists, while Caleigh Enax led the defense with 21 digs.
