SAN ANGELO, TX — Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) addressed residents Monday night at the San Angelo VFW Post 1815 during a town hall meeting, discussing legislative priorities and recent political developments.
Pfluger discussed the importance of reducing government regulations and promoting economic growth. He expressed support for policies aimed at lowering costs for families and businesses, improving access to home ownership, and maintaining energy independence. He pointed to regulatory challenges as a barrier to economic progress and said reducing inefficiencies would be a focus of his efforts.
Pfluger spoke over the need for stronger border security, citing concerns about illegal immigration and its impact on national security. He called for measures to enhance enforcement at both the southern and northern borders.
Addressing concerns from local veterans, Pfluger acknowledged issues with rural healthcare services, including those provided by the Veterans Affairs facility in Big Spring. He pledged to advocate for improved access to care, better telemedicine options, and mental health services.
On military readiness, Pfluger said he supports a focus on operational capabilities and expressed concerns about what he described as distractions from core military priorities.
Pfluger highlighted his recent election as chairman of the Republican Study Committee, a conservative policy group in Congress. He said the role would allow him to influence national policies on border security, energy, and government accountability, with a focus on issues important to West Texas constituents.
The congressman addressed concerns about government spending, regulatory overreach, and inefficiencies in federal agencies. He voiced support for term limits for elected officials and career bureaucrats, as well as measures like the REINS Act, which requires congressional approval for significant federal expenditures.
The town hall also included a question-and-answer session where residents raised topics ranging from education policy to veterans’ healthcare and federal spending.
