SAN ANGELO, TX — The Water Valley and Bronte volleyball teams will meet Saturday for the Region I-1A title and a spot in the UIL state tournament.
Each team won their regional semifinal match Friday, setting up an all-Concho Valley showdown at 1 p.m. Saturday at San Angelo Central High School’s Babe Didrikson Gym.
Bronte (29-11) is ranked No. 3 in the state in Class 1A, while Water Valley (34-6) is No. 5.
The two teams are district rivals and will be meeting for the third time this year. Bronte won the previous two meetings. The first was a sweep, but the second one was extremely close as Bronte survived a four-set battle for a 20-25, 28-26, 25-22, 27-25 win.
On Friday, Water Valley swept Fort Elliott but it was a fight the entire way in a 25-23, 26-24, 25-20 win.
Bronte had a 25-10, 25-20, 25-19 win over Wildorado in its semifinal.
On the other side of the bracket in Region IV, Richland Springs was knocked out by No. 1-ranked Harrold 25-8, 25-5, 25-13.
