Texas Influencer Fights to Reclaim Pet Monkey After Crash Confiscation

IRVING, TX – A North Texas social media influencer is seeking to reclaim her pet spider monkey, which was taken by police following a car crash in Dallas.

Brandi Botello, an influencer with nearly 43,000 followers on Instagram, says she’s been separated from her nearly three-year-old spider monkey, Jorgie Boy, since Saturday.

Police took custody of the monkey after a single-vehicle crash around 6:30 a.m. on Harry Hines Boulevard in Dallas, where Botello is accused of driving while intoxicated. No injuries were reported.

The monkey was transferred to a sanctuary in Irving, according to officials. Botello, who denies being the driver, has since launched a GoFundMe to cover legal expenses and posted photos of Jorgie Boy on social media with the hashtag #FreeJorgieBoy.

Texas law allows exotic pet ownership with permits, but Irving prohibits residents from keeping primates. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
