SAN ANGELO, TX — A 48-year-old woman was killed and a 21-year-old man was injured Wednesday morning when his pickup truck rear-ended her vehicle at a stopped railroad crossing in Tom Green County, authorities stated.
The crash occurred at about 7:20 a.m. on U.S. 277 at Old Ballinger Highway, according to a preliminary investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Lee Ann Cauley of San Angelo was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Thomas Daniel. She was driving a 2020 GMC Acadia southbound and had stopped two vehicles behind a school bus that halted at the crossing as required by law.
Cauley was a teacher at Veribest ISD. The school district announced it has canceled classes Thursday and Friday and will resume after Spring Break on March 23.
Seth Cameron Beimer of Brady, driving a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, also southbound, failed to control his speed and struck Cauley's vehicle from behind, the DPS said. Beimer, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Shannon Medical Center. Cauley was wearing a seatbelt.
The weather was clear, and road conditions were dry at the time of the crash, which involved no other vehicles or injuries.
All lanes of traffic on North U.S. Highway 277 between FM 2105 and Old Ballinger Highway were closed due to a major traffic accident Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
