Ballinger's Galvan Records Top 10 Finish at State Cross Country Meet

 

ROUND ROCK, TX — Ballinger’s Matilda Galvan took eighth place out of 151 runners Friday in the Class 2A girls division at the UIL Cross Country State Championships.

Galvan’s performance was the best of any Concho Valley athlete.

Old Settlers Park in Round Rock hosted the 2A, 4A and 6A races Friday. The 1A, 3A and 5A races will be held Saturday.

Galvan finished the two-mile course in a time of 12 minutes, 6 seconds. She was only 15.1 seconds behind the runner-up finish of Farwell’s Isabella Jaime (11:50.9).

Elysian Fields’ Cara Sims won the race in 11:34.6.

Hamilton won the team title with 37 points, while Farwell was second (77), Gruver was third (96), Goldthwaite was fourth (130) and Christoval was fifth (152). Mason finished in 12th (284) out of the 16 teams.

Christoval was led by Presley Polk in 17th place (12:27.1). Other Lady Cougars finishers included Kenadee Millican in 29th (12:49.3), Kayleigh Pump in 63rd (13:21.5), Sophie Nemec in 75th (13:27.7), Essence Bogs in 94th (13:43.5), Jae Thompson in 96th (13:46.6) and Brynlee Carson in 121st (14:21.9).

Mason’s top finisher was Elizabeth McFarland in 52nd (13:12.1), followed by Emma McCrea in 95th (13:45.9), Taylee Miller in 103rd (13:58.1), Kaitlin Paiva in 105th (13:59.9), Adalie Thomas in 108th (14:04), Hannah McFarland in 110th (14:05.8) and Annabell Marshall in 132nd (14:40.6).

Other area finishers included Coleman’s Victoria Guerrero in 15th (12:25), San Saba’s Kelyn Yanez in 48th (13:06) and Miles’ Kambry Schniers in 89th (13:25.2).

Reagan County’s Rodriguez Earns Top 25 Finish at State

Jordan Rodriguez from Reagan County had the best finish by a Concho Valley boy Friday with a 23rd-place showing out of 148 runners in the Class 2A state race.

Rodriguez clocked a time of 17:21.2 on the 5,000-meter course at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

Waco Meyer’s Marco Cunningham won the race in 16:12.7. He was 27 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Itasca’s Michael Flores (16:39.8).

Plains won the team title with 52 points, followed by Windthorst in second (98), New Summerfield in third (107), Tenaha in fourth (141) and Collinsville in fifth (144).

Mason was sixth (183) to lead our area schools, while Sonora was ninth (217) and Eldorado was 10th (240).

Mason’s top finisher was Garrett Lindsay in 43rd (17:50.9). Other Punchers included Caden Klingelhefer in 46th (17:54.7), Cooper Ratliff in 53rd (18:03), Angel Quintero in 87th (18:47.5), Irving Tavera in 89th (18:50.7), Sam Simonton in 121st (20:12.1) and Thomas Kruso in 141st (21:48.7).

Sonora’s top runner was Wyatt Killough in 36th (17:46.4), followed by Jesus Garza in 48th (17:57.8), Jaycob Ramirez in 67th (18:19.8), Gavin Covarrubias in 96th (19:03.2), Kody Prater in 115th (19:54.8), Justin Gonzalez in 118th (19:59.5), Angel Castilleja in 143rd (21:56.3).

Eldorado was led by Andrew McGee in 74th (18:28.5), followed by Roman Guadarrama in 82nd (18:38.3), Ryley Hight in 84th (18:43.5), Jaxon Hight in 85th (18:44), Ryder Walker in 94th (18:59.7), Kevin Saucedo in 98th (19:12.5) and Ramiro Leija in 100th (19:15.2).

Other area finishers included San Saba’s Eric Yanez in 65th (18:18.8) and Junction’s Calixton Valencia in 93rd (18:59.5).
