San Angelo Animal Shelter to Resume Dog Intake Following Distemper Case

SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo Animal Services will reopen for dog intake on Monday, Nov. 4, after a temporary halt due to a case of canine distemper reported in early October.

Shelter officials confirmed that there are no longer any positive cases, and no dogs died from the disease.

The shelter, in collaboration with Concho Valley PAWS, monitored and treated all dogs during the pause to prevent the spread of distemper, a highly contagious viral disease affecting dogs’ respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems.

No additional cases were detected, and officials assured the public that the shelter is now safe for new intakes.

Animal Services advises pet owners to keep their animals’ vaccinations up to date to reduce the risk of viral diseases.
