WACO, TX — Cornerstone Christian School won two state titles Monday at the TAPPS State Cross Country Championships in Waco.
The Cornerstone girls won the Class 1A team title with 28 points, while David Salas won the boys individual title in 16:43.37.
It is the fourth state cross country title for Salas in his remarkable career.
Salas is also the three-time defending state champion in the 1600 and 3200. He has a chance next spring to become the first TAPPS athlete to sweep the state titles in all of the long-distance events four times in a row.
The Lady Lions were led Monday by Alyssa Fowler’s fourth-place finish in 13:29.16, followed by Lorelei Bryant in fifth (13:32.07), Hannah Bright in sixth (14:00.79), Zoe Hollis in 14th (15:19.31) and Madeline Skelton in 16th (15:38.1).
The state meet was held at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco.
