SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State Rams won their sixth straight game Saturday with a 57-10 win over Sul Ross State on homecoming night.
ASU’s defense — which entered the game with the fifth-fewest points allowed in NCAA Division II — continued its stellar play.
It’s the fifth consecutive game the Rams have held their opponent to 10 points or less.
ASU’s defense even provided the first touchdown when Eric Rascoe picked off a pass and returned it 26 yards for a score to put ASU ahead 7-3.
Sul Ross State pulled within 14-10 midway through the second quarter, but the Rams scored three times to close out the first half with a 36-10 lead.
Jayden Jones had 11 carries for 80 yards and two TDs, while Cameron Dischler had two TD runs and caught a TD pass.
Canon Wiese, an all-state six-man football player from nearby Water Valley, had five carries for 27 yards and scored his first college touchdown on an 8-yard run.
Braeden Fuller was 17-of-23 passing for 287 yards and a TD. Zeek Freeman had three catches for 81 yards and a TD.
ASU improved to 6-2 overall and 6-0 in Lone Star Conference play. With Western Oregon’s 21-14 loss to Texas A&M-Kingsville, the Rams are now the last team unbeaten in LSC play.
ASU will host No. 20-ranked Central Washington at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.
Sul Ross State fell to 2-6, 1-5. The Lobos will host Eastern New Mexico next week.
