UIL Upholds Ruling to Suspend Texas High School Football Coach

SAN ANGELO, TX — The UIL State Executive Committee met Thursday regarding the suspension of Palestine Westwood head coach Richard Bishop, who allegedly oversaw a plan to videotape opponents’ signals while scouting.

Bishop’s suspension for the rest of the school year was upheld by the SEC, along with a public reprimand and two years probation.

Westwood ISD technology assistant Donald McCoy was also suspended from all UIL activities for the remainder of the school year.

However, Westwood’s football team was not required to forfeit all of its district games, including games that have yet to be played, as recommended by the 9-3A Division I District Executive Committee.

Westwood is ranked No. 6 in the state in 3A Division I with a 7-0 record.
