SAN ANGELO, TX — Here's a roundup of high school football highlights from around West Texas in Week 8:
Brady Blitzes Eastland For 5th Straight Win
The Brady Bulldogs delivered a stunning 47-7 blowout win on the road over Eastland on Friday.
Brady’s running game couldn’t be stopped, led by Johnny Menefield, who had 14 carries for 151 yards.
Quarterback Sean Jacoby added nine carries for 92 yards, and Ashton Taylor had 17 carries for 81 yards.
The Bulldogs only threw four passes, two of which were caught by Ashton Ramsey for 73 yards.
Demarcus Reed led Brady’s defense with 14 tackles, while Menefield had 13 stops.
It was the fifth straight win for Brady, which improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in District 5-3A Division II. The Bulldogs will host Early next week.
Eastland fell to 3-4 and 0-2. The Mavericks recently lost by one point to state-ranked Hawley, so they had the look of a dangerous team heading into district play. They’ll visit Dublin next week.
No. 6 Wall Cruises Past Coahoma
The No. 6-ranked Wall Hawks won their sixth straight game with a 48-6 win at home over Coahoma.
It was the third consecutive game Wall’s defense allowed only one touchdown.
Quarterback Landon York was once again in command of the Hawks’ spread offense. He threw for 253 yards and three TDs on 17-of-25 passing.
Even Boehle had three catches for 92 yards and a TD. Reid Robertson had four catches for 58 yards and a TD, and Briggs Jones had four catches for 46 yards and a TD.
Jager Thompson led the Hawks’ ground game with 10 carries for 110 yards and a TD. Thomas Leanos had 10 carries for 81 yards and two TDs.
Wall improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in District 4-3A Division II. The Hawks will play at Grape Creek next week.
Coahoma fell to 4-3 and 0-2. The Bulldogs will be off next week before hosting Stanton on Nov. 1.
No. 8 Mason Posts Shutout Win Over Harper
The No. 8-ranked Mason Punchers had a strong all-around performance in a 56-0 win at Harper.
Slade Buell had 13 carries for 107 yards, while Sutten Silerio had eight carries for 78 yards and three TDs.
Quarterback Carlton Schmidt threw a 58-yard TD pass to Clancy Osbourn and a 16-yard TD pass to Trevor Loeffler.
Osbourn also had an interception return for a TD.
Mason has now won six straight games. The Punchers improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in District 14-2A Division I.
Mason has a big district game next week against Holland, which is also 6-1 and 2-0.
Harper dropped to 3-4 and 0-2. The Longhorns will visit San Saba next week.
Reagan County Rolls Past Christoval
Jarrett Brown rushed for 156 yards and two TDs on 12 carries to lead Reagan County to a 36-16 win at home over Christoval.
Brown also threw for 178 yards and three TDs on 12-of-21 passing, though he also had two interceptions and lost a fumble.
Nick Franklin had four catches for 100 yards and a TD.
The Owls improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in District 3-2A Division I. They’ll play at Sonora next week.
Christoval fell to 2-5 and 1-1. The Cougars will host Forsan next week.
Water Valley Cools Off Veribest
Water Valley ended Veribest's six-game winning streak with a 53-22 win at home.
Landon Lacy threw for 192 yards and six TDs on 10-of-11 passing to efficiently lead the Wildcats' offense.
Anthony Quintana rushed for 127 yards and two TDs on 12 carries, and he had four catches for 64 yards and two TDs.
Gunnar Brooks had five catches for 120 yards and three TDs.
The Wildcats can now all but lock up the district title with a win at Robert Lee next week.
Veribest, meanwhile, is in a precarious spot where the Falcons will need to beat Robert Lee at home Nov. 1 to try and earn one of the district's two playoff spot.
Veribest will have an extra week to get ready for Robert Lee with a bye week next week. The Falcons are now 6-2 overall and 1-1 in District 8-1A Division I.
Water Valley improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in district.
Robert Lee Routs Paint Rock
Josh Garcez had six carries for 96 yards and two TDs to lead Robert Lee to a 52-6 win at home over Paint Rock.
Brenner Sherwood had four carries for 76 yards and three TDs.
Edward Samaniego led the Steers' defense with nine tackles. Anthony Landeros forced a fumble, and Lucas Martinez returned a fumble for a TD.
Robert Lee improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in District 8-1A Division I. The Steers will host Water Valley next week.
Paint Rock (0-7, 0-2) will visit Irion County next week.
Ballinger Falls to No. 10 Hamilton
The Ballinger Bearcats were unable to keep pace with No. 10-ranked Hamilton in a 35-13 loss at home.
Quarterback Kyson Burleson led Ballinger with 11 carries for 65 yards, and he also recovered a fumble on defense.
Standout Ballinger running back Aiden Pena was contained by Hamilton's defense as he totaled only 34 yards and a TD on nine carries.
Manny Gonzalez also had a rushing TD for the Bearcats.
Ballinger (4-3 overall, 1-1 in District 5-2A Division I) will travel to De Leon next week. Hamilton (7-0, 2-0) will host Bangs.
