Angelo State Defense Dominates in Shutout over A&M Kingsville

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State Rams put on a commanding display during Family Weekend, shutting out Texas A&M-Kingsville 38-0 at LeGrand Stadium. The victory extended the Rams' win streak over the Javelinas to 11 games, improving their overall record to 4-2 while remaining unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play at 4-0.

The Rams set the tone early with a special teams play, as Xavier Walton blocked a punt midway through the first quarter, leading to a one-yard touchdown run by Braeden Fuller. Angelo State’s defense dominated early, with Andrew Pitts intercepting a pass, marking his fifth consecutive game with an interception. On the following play, Fuller connected with Kel Williams for a 38-yard touchdown, putting the Rams up 14-0.

Fuller and Williams found the end zone again late in the second quarter, this time on a three-yard pass, giving Angelo State a comfortable three-score lead at halftime.

The Rams continued their dominance in the third quarter, marching 75 yards down the field and capping the drive with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Fuller to Hunter Wallis. Fuller finished with a career-high 332 passing yards and four touchdown passes on 18-of-33 attempts. Zeek Freeman and Kyle Bradford contributed with 65 and 61 receiving yards, respectively.

Fuller threw his fourth touchdown of the game midway through the third quarter, finding Donny Bishop for a 40-yard completion. It marked the first touchdown of Bishop’s career, as he finished with four catches for 59 yards. Bradley Larson sealed the victory with a 24-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, bringing the game to its final score.

Kingsville had one serious opportunity to put points on the board in the second half. A drive that began at the Rams' 33-yard line almost put Kingsville in field goal range. However, the smothering defense ended those hopes quickly.

Angelo State's offense racked up 342 total yards, including a season-high 342 yards through the air, while the defense stifled the Javelinas. They allowed just 182 yards and forced three turnovers. Defense was the name of the game as the Rams registered 11 tackles for loss and six sacks, with Stephen Woods leading the charge with two sacks. Kenton Allen led the team with a game-high 12 tackles, while Walton added six tackles and an interception.

The Rams will look to continue their strong conference play next Saturday, as they travel to face Midwestern State on Oct. 19.
