Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office Issues Scam Alert

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office has issued a scam alert after receiving several reports of someone posing as a detective.

The impersonator, who identifies themselves as “Detective Brooks,” instructs citizens to visit the sheriff’s office regarding DNA testing or outstanding warrants and requests payment.

According to officials, scammers often use tactics to appear legitimate, providing badge numbers or names of actual law enforcement officers. They may also spoof phone numbers to make it seem like they are calling from a government agency.

The sheriff’s office emphasized that it will never solicit funds or request payment over the phone. Individuals with outstanding warrants will not be contacted by phone or email for payment via gift cards, money cards, or credit cards.

Residents who receive such calls are advised to hang up immediately, block the number, and avoid sharing any personal information. Victims of the scam are encouraged to contact the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office at 325-655-8111.
