BRONTE, TX — The Bronte High School volleyball team made a statement Saturday with an upset of the No. 1-ranked team in the state in Class 1A, Water Valley.
The No. 16-ranked Lady Longhorns earned a decisive 25-17, 25-13, 25-20 sweep at home over their District 6-1A rivals.
The win snapped a nine-match winning streak for Water Valley.
Kylie Reno led Bronte with 16 kills, while Emalyn Bohensky added 12 kills.
Cate Schiavi directed the offense with 27 assists. November Wilson led the defense with 22 digs.
Bronte improved to 20-10 overall and 2-0 in district. Water Valley fell to 25-4, 2-1.
Both teams play No. 15 Veribest (21-9, 2-0) in their next match.
Bronte will visit Veribest at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday. Water Valley will host Veribest at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.
The three state-ranked teams should provide an exciting district-title race in their five-team district with Paint Rock and Olfen.
