Wall Hawks Rout Ozona for 20th Straight Win

WALL, TX — The Wall Hawks have shown no signs of slowing down after last year’s state championship.

With a largely new starting cast, the Hawks have started this season 4-0 — giving them 20 straight victories — capped by a 51-6 win at home over Ozona on Friday.

Wall’s explosive offense raced out to a 48-0 halftime lead.

Quarterback Gunner King threw for 337 yards and five touchdowns on 13-of-18 passing. He also had four carries for 60 yards and a TD.

Gunner Garza had 11 carries for 78 yards and a TD and hauled in a 37-yard TD catch.

Jager Thompson had three catches for 110 yards and a TD, while Evan Boehle had two catches for 67 yards and scored on both of them. Hudson Surber also had a 46-yard TD grab.

In all, 11 players caught a pass for Wall.

The Hawks’ defense, after allowing 35 points in the season opener, has allowed only 33 points in the three games since.

Slayton Hallmark led the defense against Ozona with 10 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack and one QB hurry. Kalan Sanders had eight tackles, an interception and a pass breakup, while Krue Thompson had eight tackles, an INT, a tackle for loss and a QB hurry.

Ozona was led by Jay Borrego with 19 carries for 70 yards. Jadon Vega had six carries for 56 yards. Leo Blanco had five catches for 63 yards.

Wall, ranked No. 3 in Class 3A Division I, should see one of its biggest tests of the season next week when it hosts Midland Greenwood (3-1), a Class 4A D-I state quarterfinalist last year.

Ozona (1-3), which knew it was in for a formidable challenge against Wall, will hope its difficult nondistrict schedule prepared it for the start of District 4-2A D-I play next week when it hosts Forsan.
