San Angelo’s $360M Mega Millions Record Shattered by $800M Win

SUGAR LAND, TX — The Sol Living Trust from Sugar Land has claimed an $800 million Mega Millions jackpot from the September 10, 2024 drawing, surpassing the $360 million prize won in October 2023 by The Blue Yucca Trust.

The Blue Yucca Trust’s ticket was purchased in San Angelo.

The win is the largest prize ever awarded to a Texas Lottery player, according to information released today from the Texas Lottery. 

The trust chose the cash option of $409,297,624 before taxes, marking the biggest payout in Texas Lottery history. The winning ticket was purchased at a Murphy USA location in Sugar Land, earning the retailer a $1 million bonus. The winning numbers were 1-2-16-24-66, with the Mega Ball 6.

This latest win surpasses the $360 million jackpot claimed by The Blue Yucca Trust in October 2023, with the winning ticket purchased at Stripes #5031 in San Angelo. The 2024 Sugar Land jackpot is also the seventh-largest in Mega Millions history.

Texas players claimed 175,127 lower-tier prizes in the same drawing, with amounts ranging from $2 to $40,000. Mega Millions drawings occur every Tuesday and Friday.

Mega Millions is played by choosing five numbers from a field of 70 and one Mega Ball number from the second field of 25 numbers. To win the Mega Millions jackpot, players must match all six numbers drawn including the Mega Ball. Players matching fewer numbers may not win the jackpot, but still walk away winners.

Mega Millions currently offers a $20 million starting jackpot and a second-tier (Match 5+0) prize of $1 million. By choosing the Megaplier for $1 more per Play, players can multiply their non-jackpot winnings by two, three, four or five times, winning as much as $5 million.
