SAN ANGELO, TX — West Texas VA Health Care System is proud to announce upcoming Medication Take Back Day events, in alignment with the Dispose Unused Medications and Prescription Opioids Act. These events offer a vital public service by providing all individuals, not just veterans, the opportunity to safely dispose of controlled substance prescription medications at designated VA facilities.
Scheduled for October 25-26, 2024, the Medication Take Back Day events will take place at the following locations:
- Wilson & Young Medal of Honor Community Based Outpatient Clinic, Odessa, TX - October 25, 2024
- Colonel Charles and JoAnne Powell VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic, San Angelo, TX - October 25, 2024
- Abilene VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic - October 25, 2024
- Hobbs VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic - October 25, 2024
- George H. O’Brien, Jr. VA Medical Center, Big Spring, TX - October 26, 2024
These events are crucial in combating the ongoing crisis of opioid misuse and overdose by providing a safe and responsible way to dispose of medications that are no longer needed. Unused medications can lead to accidental ingestion or misuse, so proper disposal is key to ensuring community safety.
“We encourage everyone to take advantage of these Medication Take Back Day events,” said Adolph Ramos, WTVAHCS Chief of Police. “This initiative not only helps safeguard the community but also promotes awareness about the proper disposal of prescription medications.”
