SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State women's soccer team earned a point against Regis in a physical matchup that resulted in a 0-0 draw at the newly renovated Legrand Soccer Complex.
The Rambelles now hold a 2-1-2 record following the tie, while Regis moves to 1-4-1 on the season.
Angelo State’s Graycen Rasmussen registered the team’s first shot in the 8th minute after receiving a through ball from Madison Maxey, but her effort sailed just over the crossbar. The Rambelles continued to apply pressure, with Mariah Griffin’s attempt in the 12th minute forcing Regis goalkeeper Grace Glover into her first save of the match.
Midway through the first half, Madison Bourzikas fired a shot from the middle of the pitch, forcing Glover into a diving save to keep the match level.
Regis had limited offensive opportunities, with their first and only shot on target coming in the 4th minute. Regis forward Alex Baer launched a strike from outside the box, but it was comfortably saved by Angelo State goalkeeper Amber Lockwood, who recorded her only save of the night.
By halftime, Angelo State had taken five shots compared to Regis’ one. The second half saw more of the same, with Katelin Heise missing high with an effort from outside the box in the opening minute.
The Rambelles’ defense was the standout of the night, limiting Regis to just three shots total, only one of which was on target. Lockwood’s performance in goal earned her fourth shutout in five games and her 11th career shutout as a Rambelle.
Despite outshooting Regis 12-3 and putting three efforts on target, Angelo State was unable to find the back of the net. The Rambelles’ head coach, Travis McCorkle, expressed frustration after the game, saying, “It’s a tough tie to take. We had 12 shots at home, and offensively, I don’t think we were clean enough. Sometimes draws feel like wins, and others feel like losses — tonight feels like we did all we could to win, but we just didn’t get the ball in the back of the net.”
The Rambelles return to action on September 28 at 1 p.m. when they open conference play against Texas Woman's University.
