Brawl Erupts at Downtown Bar, Leaving One Man Seriously Injured

SAN ANGELO, TX — Early Saturday morning, a violent brawl broke out at the Whiskey River Saloon, located at 125 E. Concho Ave., resulting in at least one man being seriously injured.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m., when at least five police units and an ambulance were seen responding to a chaotic scene in the bar's parking lot. This location has a history of violence, including a fatal altercation involving a U.S. Marine from Goodfellow Air Force Base, who was killed after a confrontation with a motorcycle gang. During the Whiskey River murder trial, it was revealed that the Marine's stabbing was an act of "biker gang justice." Ray Vera was found guilty of murder in April 2024. Link to full story.

According to multiple witnesses, the latest incident began when a woman exiting the bar around 1:30 a.m. was suddenly assaulted from behind by another woman near the exit. The unprovoked attack prompted a man to intervene on behalf of the victim, while another man sided with the assailant. The situation quickly escalated, and the first man was knocked to the ground, where he was surrounded and repeatedly kicked by several other men until he was motionless.

“We thought he was dead,” said one eyewitness, a woman who was present during the incident.

At least two ambulances arrived on the scene and transported the unconscious man and a woman, who was visibly bleeding and screaming, to Shannon Medical Center. Witnesses reported seeing the assaulted man move his leg slightly as he was being loaded onto a gurney by EMS.

Empty beer bottles were scattered throughout the bar's parking lot, with at least 20 observed at the scene.

As of 2 a.m., police were still gathering evidence, and no arrests were noted in the jail log that would indicate involvement in the fight. We have reached out to the police for an official statement and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
