MIDLAND, TX — The San Angelo Central volleyball team lost its first match of the season Tuesday in a tense four-setter against private school state power Midland Christian.
The Lady Cats, who hadn't dropped a set in their first 12 matches, lost the opening two sets in Midland before battling back in the third set.
Midland Christian closed it out in the fourth for a 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 25-21 win.
Midland Christian, which advanced to the TAPPS state tournament last year, improved its record to 12-5. Central fell to 12-1.
Central was ranked No. 9 in the state in Class 6A last week, but they somehow dropped out of the Texas Girls Coaches Association state rankings heading into this week despite an undefeated showing at the Nita Vannoy Memorial Tournament over the weekend.
Central will compete again Friday and Saturday at the Canyon Randall Tournament. The Lady Cats' next home appearance is at 6 p.m. Sept. 17 against Clyde.
