Water Valley, Robert Lee Earn First-Team All-State Selections

SAN ANGELO, TX — Water Valley led the Concho Valley recently with five players earning first-team all-state recognition on the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association Division I team.

Wide receiver Rett Dickison, special teams player Marcus Rodriguez, spread rusher Brylan Naylor, linebacker Boston Wiese and safety Landon Lacy were all named to the first team.

In addition, junior running back Branson Lacy was named the state’s Newcomer of the Year.

Water Valley offensive lineman Hayden Kolster was named to the second team. Earning honorable mention were Cade Manley as a tight center and Branson Lacy as a utility back.

Water Valley was ranked No. 2 in the state nearly all season and finished with a record of 13-1 after being upset 54-46 in the state semifinals by Rankin. Landon Lacy was limited in the game due to a knee injury.

Robert Lee had two players — spread back Brenner Sherwood and defensive lineman Wyatt Bosworth — named to the first team.

Two other Steers, spread center Brennen Hood and linebacker Edward Samaniego, earned second-team honors.

Robert Lee was ranked as high as No. 5 in the state and won its first two playoff games since 2012 before the Steers lost 50-28 to Water Valley in the state quarterfinals.

Another Concho Valley school represented was Menard, which had offensive lineman Cado Bannowsky on the second team and running back Jayden Payton receiving honorable mention.

Menard started the season 11-0 before running into eventual state champion Gordon in the second round of the playoffs.

Garden City had nose guard Roberto Almazan on the second team and running back Brody Walts earning honorable mention.

Veribest punter Lorenzo Hight was also an honorable mention selection.

Gordon had the state’s Player of the Year in Stryker Reed, the Offensive MVP in Ry Reed and the Defensive MVP in Brayden Walters.
