ANNAPOLIS, MD — Former San Angelo Central gymnastics standout Ryan Terrill was recently named the assistant coach for the United States Naval Academy men’s gymnastics team.
Terrill was a three-time regional all-around champion at Central. He finished as the state runner-up in the all-around his senior year in 2012.
After being sidelined by a rare form of cancer his freshman year at the University of Oklahoma, Terrill returned to the gymnastics world as part of the Sooners’ club team.
He helped lead Oklahoma to back-to-back national club titles and was the 2016 national champion in the all-around.
Terrill was most recently working as a coach at Centre Elite Gymnastics in State College, Pennsylvania.
"I am thrilled to welcome Ryan Terrill to the Navy gymnastics family," head coach Kim Simons said.
"Ryan was a successful high school and collegiate gymnast and most recently he's been producing top-level gymnasts at Centre Elite Gymnastics. His passion and ability to develop athletes to the highest level will be a huge asset to our program."
"I am deeply honored to step into this role at the Naval Academy," Terrill said. "My passion lies in developing and inspiring athletes to achieve their full potential, while also guiding them to become well-rounded, disciplined young men of strong character and integrity. I look forward to being part of this esteemed program and am excited to begin this journey with the team."
