Police Identify Driver in Hit-And-Run That Killed Andrews Boy

ANDREWS, TX — After receiving help from the public through video surveillance, the Andrews Police Department has identified the driver that killed a 6-year-old boy Wednesday in a hit-and-run.

The driver’s name has not yet been released, but the vehicle involved was a white Dodge Ram truck. Subsequent tips about the vehicle led police to a local oilfield service company, according to the Andrews PD.

The investigation also revealed that a second vehicle struck the victim, Vincent Hill. It was behind the Dodge Ram that is believed to have originally struck the boy.

“We have not established a good enough photo/video of this vehicle to release. Efforts are being made for enhancement,” the Andrews PD release stated.

The incident is believed to have occurred at about 5:59 a.m. First responders were dispatched about five minutes later when a motorist saw the victim and called 911.

Officers and EMS arrived and provided life-saving measures. He was transported to Permian Regional Medical Center in Andrews, where he succumbed to his injuries.

“There are also several cars that passed through the area after the incident that did not hit the victim, but we would like to speak with them,” the release stated. “Some of the individuals have made contact and we greatly appreciate their cooperation.

“If you are the driver of the secondary vehicle or a passerby vehicle, please contact the police department as soon as possible.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we have been in contact with outside agencies for assistance. This investigation is of the utmost importance to our department, and we will continue to work diligently throughout the course of the investigation.”

The mother of the victim has created a GoFundMe to help with funeral and memorial costs.

Vincent’s mother wrote about the incident in the GoFundMe:

“Around 6 am on August 14th, Vincent woke up extra early and got his bouncy balls and decided to go play in the backyard on the trampoline just taking full advantage of the last day of summer break. We believe that his ball rolled out and he went after it into the street. Someone hit Vincent with their vehicle, and just left him there bleeding out in the street. They left him out in the street to die, alone and scared. Vincent was found with his favorite blanket with him, and the ball off to the side of the yard. My only son, Vincent, is now forever 6 years old. Vincent’s sister, Violet (7), is beyond devastated and in complete shock.

“I never imagined that we’d have to plan my child’s funeral, but unfortunately it’s something we have to do now. Please pray for my family, pray the police are able to find the person who left my sweet boy alone in the street.

“Thank you so much to the police who are doing everything possible to find the person who done this and the paramedics who responded quickly, thank you to the hospital staff who did everything they could to try to save my son. Of course thank you as well for the compassion the community has shown us during this horrific tragedy.”
