SAN ANGELO, TX— Details regarding the stabbing at a San Angelo gas station Sunday have been revealed in court documents.
According to court documents, on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025, around 8:26 a.m., a San Angelo police officer observed a physical disturbance while leaving a previous unrelated call for service at the DK convenience store, 1850 W. Beauregard Ave. The altercation involved two males fighting in the parking lot of the store.
Shortly after, the officer saw the defendant, later identified as Michael Zapata, run south on foot from the DK store on South Harrison Street. After losing sight of Zapata, more officers arrived and began searching the immediate area. A lieutenant with the San Angelo Police Department eventually located Zapata hiding behind a small, fenced area beside the El Patio Inn, 1901 W. Beauregard Ave.
The investigator spoke with an SAPD sergeant who said the victim suffered a stab wound to his right rib cage area, and medics transported him to Shannon Medical Center for treatment. Multiple blood droplets were observed on the ground where the victim was originally located.
Video was reviewed from the El Patio Inn and an officer’s patrol unit. The actual stabbing was unable to be seen due to the pixelated view from the camera, which had to be zoomed in.
At Shannon, the victim said that Zapata had stabbed him over money being owed. Then, Zapata was interviewed at the SAPD’s CID Annex, where he agreed to speak with the investigator after his Miranda Rights were read to him. There, Zapata allegedly admitted to stabbing the victim but said it was over the victim taunting him over a female dispute.
A detective located a black and blue folding knife at the scene where Zapata was hiding.
Zapata was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and has a $175,000 bond.
