AUSTIN – Last week, San Angelo LIVE! reported information about a $3,000 reward offered for tips leading to the arrest of Jesse Cruz Jr, 49, a Department of Public Safety Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender. Thanks to the public's help, Cruz is now in custody after his capture in San Antonio on Aug. 27, said DPS in a press release Wednesday afternoon.
“Working off tip information, the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division (CID), San Antonio Police Department and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested Cruz without incident at a San Antonio resident,” said DPS officials.
Originally, Cruz was wanted for failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements. In 1993, the San Antonio man was convicted of indecency with a child by sexual contact after an incident in Bexar County involving a 12-year-old girl. DPS said he was subsequently sentenced to 12 years in prison. For more information, readers can see his captured bulletin by clicking here.
DPS added that the $3,000 reward will be paid, and so far in 2015, DPS and other agencies have arrested 23 Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender fugitives and 17 sex offenders. Rewards in the amount of $56,500 have been paid for tips that resulted in arrests.
