This New Movie Was Shot Right Here In West Texas

SAN ANGELO, TX — A new film titled “Bud,” shot in West Texas, is set to premiere in San Angelo later this month.

Bud centers around a group of elitists attempting to take over a small West Texas town to build a casino.

According to the film’s description, “They soon learn they picked the wrong family to mess with. The bodies start to pile up as the locals take action to protect their property.”

The premiere is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at the Brooke and Bates Theatre, located at 82 Gillis St.

Tickets can be purchased online at SanAngeloPAC.org, by calling (325) 284-3825, or at the box office.

Directed by Shane Bradford and Michael Murphy, Bud stars Lezlie Deane, Whit Paxton, and Jeff Smith. Deane, known for her role in “Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare,” is one of the film’s highlighted actors.

Actor Ben Rhodes, who participated in the film, said that many of the cast members are San Angelo locals. He also said that the movie was shot in and around the small town of Miles, about 15 miles northeast of San Angelo.

Bud is rated R and includes a mix of comic breaks and slasher scenes.

The film has garnered accolades including Best Feature, Best Ensemble, and Best FX/Makeup from the Hollywood Blood Horror Festival.

Following the film’s production, the core group of creators launched “Dirt Roadies,” a project featuring comedy sketches and skits available on Facebook and YouTube.
