SAN ANGELO, TX – West Central Texas is experiencing extremely high temperatures today, with the National Weather Service forecasting highs between 100 to 105 degrees across the Big Country and mid-90s along the I-10 corridor.
These scorching conditions are expected to bring increased wildfire risks due to the dry weather.
Abilene is forecasted to reach a high of 104°F today, with temperatures expected to climb even higher on Wednesday and Thursday, potentially reaching 108°F on both days. This matches the current record of 108°F for these dates. San Angelo will see temperatures rising to 102°F today, with highs of 106°F on Wednesday and 107°F on Thursday, approaching record highs of 108°F and 109°F, respectively.
The heat is anticipated to persist throughout the week, with Wednesday through Sunday seeing afternoon highs consistently between 100°F and 108°F. While Saturday and Sunday may experience slightly lower temperatures, ranging from 98°F to 106°F, the heat-related impacts remain significant.
Residents are advised to take several precautions to stay safe during these extreme temperatures:
- Hydrate: Drink plenty of water before feeling thirsty.
- Avoid Outdoor Activities: Limit strenuous activities between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
- Wear Light Clothing: Opt for lightweight and light-colored clothing.
- Stay in Air Conditioning: Spend time in air-conditioned environments whenever possible.
