FBI Arrests Suspect in Well-Dressed Serial Bank Robber Case

DALLAS, TX – The FBI’s Dallas Division has arrested Justin Lee Chambers (40) in connection with a series of recent bank robberies in Texas.

Chambers, who was apprehended in Grapevine, Texas, on Monday, July 29, at around 10 a.m., is suspected of being the “Derby Desperado,” responsible for bank heists in Garland and Dallas earlier this month.

Chambers is accused of robbing the Texans Credit Union in Garland on July 3 and the Capital One Bank in Dallas on July 12. During both incidents, the suspect used a similar method, presenting a robbery demand note and fleeing the scene in a dark SUV.

The FBI, in collaboration with the Dallas Police Department’s Violent Crime Task Force, identified and arrested Chambers. He will be charged through the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Texas.

The initial FBI investigation described the suspect as a well-dressed male, with light to medium complexion, green or hazel eyes, dark thick eyebrows, and a stocky build. During the Garland robbery, he wore a dark-colored suit, white shirt, dark tie with light-colored stripes, brown shoes, and a light fedora-style hat with a dark band. For the Dallas robbery, he wore a dark-colored suit, a dark shirt, and a light or yellow tie.
