Details on $1 Million Theft of San Angelo Walmart Released

SAN ANGELO, TX — Details have been released on the large-scale theft operation from a San Angelo Walmart, where more than $1 million was stolen.

Carmelo Amigleo and Ryan Munoz, both 18, were arrested over the weekend for theft of property more than $300,000.

According to court documents, on July 18, 2024, a San Angelo Police Department investigator was contacted by a Walmart global investigator who stated that Walmart Corporate was investigating fraud of lottery ticket redemptions.

Two Walmart employees, Amigleo and Munoz, were believed to be creating fraudulent lottery winning transactions and then taking cash from the register.

Walmart CCTV footage was reviewed which showed both Amigleo and Munoz creating the fraudulent winning transactions, then pocketing the winnings which were usually in the amount between $300 and $500. These transactions mainly involved taking cash from the register, but on some occasions Munoz and Amigleo would transfer the funds to a debit card retained on their person.

The fraudulent transactions occurred between Jan. 1, 2024, and July 4, 2024, and the amount taken from Walmart was approximately $747,933.00. This amount was only what Walmart had calculated within the provided time frame, and it was explained by Walmart that expanding the search beyond those dates would indicate an even greater sum of money stolen.

Munoz allegedly bought a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro from Pee Wee Cray Fairly Reliable Used Cars in Weatherford, Texas, for $32,500 on Jan. 9, 2024. The dealership said that Munoz paid the full amount in cash.

Amigleo and Munoz also allegedly bought two 2024 Kawasaki dirt bikes from Family Powersports. Both bikes purchased were paid in the full amount of $8,602.12 and $6,737.22.

Amigleo and Munoz were arrested on July 28, 2024. Amilgeo was released on July 29, 2024, on $350,000 bond. Munoz is currently still an inmate in the Tom Green County Jail.
