San Angelo Couple Indicted for Robbery After Luring the Victim with the Devil's Lettuce

SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo couple have been indicted for aggravated robbery after inviting a man over to smoke weed but instead attacked and robbed him.

Tomas Salazar, 28, and Kaylee Smith, 23, of San Angelo, have been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for aggravated robbery.

According to court documents, San Angelo police were dispatched to a possible robbery call on November 26, 2023. The officer identified the victim who said he had been in contact with Smith on Facebook. Smith allegedly asked the victim if he smoke marijuana, which he stated he did on occasion. She gave him an address to a residence on the 400 block of South Van Buren to come over and smoke.

When the victim arrived at the address, he had Smith meet him outside before going inside. The victim followed Smith into the residence then immediately was attacked and beaten to the floor. He stated there were two male subjects beating him with an object he believed to be a metal bar.

After the attack, one of the male attackers began demanding money and made him contact his mother for $11,000 for his release. The victim identified one of the men as Salazar in a photograph lineup performed by the San Angelo Police Department. He then said that the attackers took his silver necklace, Seiko watch, and Jordan shoes.

The victim was able to get out of the house and hide from the subjects.

The victim’s mother was interviewed who said she received text messages from her son during the afternoon on November 28, 2023, in which he was asking for help and to bring money. She then stated that she received a phone call from an unknown male caller who demanded money for her son’s release.

The victim was able to send his mother his location and she advised the caller that she was calling the cops. She then located the victim hiding near the residence.

Investigators observed facial and back injuries on the victim. They had reason to believe that Smith lured the victim to the residence for the purpose of robbing the victim.

Smith was arrested on November 30, 2023, and was released on December 1, 2023, on $150,000 bond. Salazar was arrested on December 1, 2023, and released that same day on $151,096 bond.

Both are due in court next on September 4, 2024.
