How Much Rain to Expect from Hurricane Beryl

SAN ANGELO, TX — Forecasts for Hurricane Beryl continue to be updated, and new reports show that as it weakens over the northern Yucatan Peninsula, parts of Texas will be in its crosshairs. Unfortunately for San Angelo and other parts of West Texas, the newest reports suggest that the Concho Valley will most likely not see rain from the hurricane.

“Given what I'm seeing on the data, I would think Beryl is going to shift even more north and east on the next advisory like that. And what that means for us is less chance of rain for West Texas,” Christopher Daniels at the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office here in San Angelo said.

The hurricane initially looked like it would make landfall in South Texas before shifting north in our direction, but now that shift north looks like it will keep Beryl east of I-35.

“So the previous forecast had it going in south of Brownsville and in for east to Del Rio, which would have given us a better chance of rain,” Daniels continued. “The data today is showing a track more towards maybe the lower to middle Texas coast, and then moving northeast from there, which would keep this form to the east of moving to the east of I-35. And if that can happen, then we will be on the drier part of the storm. And our rain chances will be less than what we were thinking as of yesterday.”

While San Angelo might not see any precipitation from the hurricane, a cold front is set to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to the San Angelo area this afternoon, along with a welcome drop in temperatures. Read more on this weekend’s weather HERE
